We are looking for highly motivated students with a strong background in sustainable architecture, urban design, zero-energy building, or other related disciplines. Students with interests in building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) systems, climate-adaptive façade systems, daylight and colour design in built environments, and carbon-neutral buildings and communities are encouraged to apply.
As a PhD candidate in our research group, you will have the unique opportunity to work on groundbreaking projects that have the potential to revolutionize the construction industry. You will work with HKCRC and our industrial partners to address real-world challenges associated with automated BIPV manufacturing, construction and installation. Your research will help develop advanced methods and techniques in the following areas:
Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV): Research into new ways to integrate photovoltaic modules into building components to achieve energy production while maintaining architectural aesthetics.
Zero Energy/Zero Carbon Buildings: Explore strategies and technologies to achieve zero net energy or zero carbon emissions buildings, contributing to sustainable development and environmental protection.
Modular Integrated Construction (MiC): Develop innovative methods for off-site construction and modular integration to optimize efficiency, quality and cost-effectiveness.
Automated construction: Research into automation technologies, robotics and artificial intelligence to enhance construction processes, improve productivity and safety.
Building Information Modeling (BIM) and digital twins: Leverage the power of BIM and digital twin technologies to improve the design, construction and operation efficiency of buildings and enable intelligent decision-making and life cycle management.
Smart Manufacturing of Photovoltaic Modules and Assemblies: Explore advanced manufacturing technologies to enable efficient production of photovoltaic modules and components, integrate smart features, and improve performance.
Thin-film photovoltaic manufacturing: Research into large-scale thin-film photovoltaic manufacturing methods with a focus on improving efficiency, durability and cost-effectiveness to contribute to the widespread adoption of renewable energy.
Smart Windows (Electrochromic Glass): Research into advanced glass technologies, such as electrochromic glass, for smart windows that improve energy efficiency, occupant comfort, and visual aesthetics.
Structural Color Coatings: Explore innovative coatings and materials with structural color properties for energy-efficient and visually appealing building surfaces.
Prospective students and researchers are welcome to get in touch. You are welcome to send an email (changyingx@ust.hk) with the following materials:
1. CV
2.Transcripts
3.Design Portfolio (optional)
4.A brief overview stating your background, motivation, research plans, and why you are interested in joining us
5. Other related materials that can demonstrate your capabilities are also encouraged to be attached
